π Visit Japan Web & Entry QR Codes
Step-by-step walkthrough of the digital immigration and customs declaration portal.
Visit Japan Web Portal Registration
Visit Japan Web is the official digital portal managed by the Digital Agency of Japan. It streamlines the entry procedures for immigration and customs. Registering online generates two distinct QR codes on your phone, allowing you to bypass filling out physical paper cards on the flight or at arrival desks.
Registration Protocol:
- Create an Account: Access the official portal at
vjw-lp.digital.go.jpand create a profile. - Register Passport details: Take a clear photo of your passport's bio data page and upload it. The portal uses OCR to verify details within minutes.
- Fill out Immigration & Customs Questionnaire: Answer standard health, purpose-of-visit, and baggage declarations.
Data Entry for First-Night Accommodations
The portal will ask for your address and phone number in Japan. If you are changing hotels or traveling extensively, you must input the details for your very first night's accommodation:
Required Address Formats
- Postal Code (ι΅δΎΏηͺε·): Enter the 7-digit code (e.g. 160-0021). The portal will auto-populate the Prefecture and City.
- Address (ηΊεγ»ηͺε°): Copy-paste the rest of the street name, block, and number directly from your hotel booking confirmation.
- Hotel Name (γγγ«ε): Clearly write the name of the hotel (e.g. "Hotel Gracery Shinjuku") in the field.
- Contact Phone: Enter the hotel's local Japanese phone number (starting with +81 or 0).
Offline Screenshot Protocols for Arrival Gates
Airport Wi-Fi networks at Narita and Haneda can be extremely congested, and cellular signals can drop inside deep concrete arrival halls before you pass border checkpoints.
Before boarding your flight to Japan, log into the Visit Japan Web portal, generate your Immigration QR Code (colored bar) and Customs QR Code (colored bar), and take a clear screenshot of both. Save them in a dedicated album on your phone or in your Apple/Google Files for instant offline access.
If you have children or dependents traveling with you, register them as "Family Members" under your account, and take screenshots of their individual QR codes as well.
