🚌Kyoto Bus
Boarding rules, flat fares vs. distance scaling, and discount pass integrations.
How to Ride Kyoto Buses
Kyoto's bus system operates differently than standard western transit systems. Pay attention to the boarding direction and fare machines to avoid hold-ups.
Enter through the rear door. If boarding a distance-based bus (outside flat zone), pull a paper ticket from the slot or tap your IC card.
Screens above the driver display the upcoming stops in English. Press the stop button to request a stop. Move forward slowly when stopping.
Exit via the front door. Drop exactly ¥230 JPY cash (or your ticket) in the box, or tap your IC card on the reader next to the driver.
Kyoto City Bus Fare Structure
| Zone | Adult Price | Child (6-11) Price | Payment Methods |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Flat Fare Zone | ¥230 JPY | ¥120 JPY | IC Card (Suica/PASMO) or Cash. |
| Outside Flat Zone (e.g. Arashiyama) | Scales by distance | ~Half of Adult | Match ticket number with fare board at front. |
Kyoto Subway & Bus 1-Day Pass
