¥5,000 Minimum Spend
You must spend a minimum of ¥5,000 (pre-tax) in a single store on the same calendar day to qualify for the 10% consumption tax refund.
Exemption Process Steps

Identify Eligible Stores
Look for the Red/White 'Tax-Free' emblem at store entrances (e.g. Uniqlo, Don Quijote, Bic Camera).

Present Your Physical Passport
Present your physical passport containing the temporary visitor sticker/stamp to the cashier at checkout. Digital passport scans are not accepted.

Seal Consumables
Consumables (cosmetics, snacks, medicine) will be sealed in a secure plastic bag by the clerk. Do not open this bag while inside Japan.

Customs QR Scan at Airport
Scan your passport QR code at the dedicated customs declaration desk at the airport before boarding your flight home to confirm exportation.
