🥢Restaurant Manners
Chopstick taboos, noodle slurping logic, and pouring drinks at the table.
● Noodle Slurping
Slurping hot soup noodles (Ramen, Soba, Udon) is highly encouraged in Japan. It draws cool air into your mouth to prevent burning, aerates the soup to enhance taste profile, and signals to the chef that the food is delicious.
● Refilling Drinks (Oshaku)
When drinking alcohol with companions, never pour your own glass (known as *tejaku*, which is considered lonely or greedy). Pour drinks for others, and wait for them to reciprocate by refilling yours. Keep your glass filled to show appreciation.
