The Transit Protocol

Planned Service Suspensions:

When a major typhoon warning is issued, train networks (including the Shinkansen bullet trains) execute planned suspensions up to 24 hours in advance.

Do not attempt to travel to rural areas, mountains, or the airport. Secure a room at a local hotel in your current city and stay indoors.

Hotel Room Stock Up

Convenience stores and markets may face brief supply runs during severe storms. Buy these items for your hotel room immediately:

  • 2 Liters of drinking water per person
  • 2 Days of non-perishable foods (onigiri, bread, protein bars)
  • Mobile power bank (fully charged)
