1

Scan the QR Code

Go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM (or Add Cellular Plan). Point your camera at the purchase confirmation QR code.

2

Label the Line

When prompted, label your new cellular line as "Japan Data" to distinguish it from your primary line.

3

Configure Lines on Landing

Once you arrive in Japan, switch your default Cellular Data line to the "Japan Data" eSIM profile. Ensure Data Roaming is turned ON for the eSIM profile, but kept OFF for your primary home SIM to prevent roaming charges.

FAQs

Can I scan the QR code from my own phone screen?
Most phones require a camera capture of the QR code. You can print the code, open the QR on a friend's device or laptop, or manually enter the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code (found on your purchase receipt) if you have no second screen.
Will deleting the eSIM profile cancel my plan?
No. Deleting the profile deletes the technical routing credentials, but does not refund or cancel the purchase. Once deleted, many eSIM profiles cannot be re-downloaded. Contact customer support if you accidentally delete a profile.
Can I install the eSIM on multiple devices?
No. eSIM profiles are tied to a unique device security chip (eID) upon activation. Once scanned, the QR code cannot be reused on a different phone.
What should I do if my internet connection is slow after activation?
Make sure you are connected to the correct carrier (NTT Docomo or SoftBank depending on your provider), verify that Data Roaming is turned ON for the eSIM profile, and try restarting your device to force a fresh network registration.
Do I need to disable my home physical SIM?
No, you do not need to disable it. Keep it turned ON to receive incoming SMS (like OTP codes), but configure your phone settings to route all cellular data exclusively through the Japan eSIM.
